Design test / The step ladder

Not a merch brand. A ladder.

This page is a design test, not a working store: you cannot buy anything on it today. It sketches how a store could work if it were honest. Show the real cost, let the buyer choose the support on top, publish where every dollar landed. Gear funds tables, tables earn trust, trust builds a movement.

The frame

Five rungs, each one checkable.

This store exists to climb, not to sell. Each rung states its own proof, so anyone can check which rung we're actually standing on.

Starter kits put a real table in a real town: help first, politics later. Proof: kit contents and honest ranges below, quoted per region.

Every sale, cost, support dollar and payout lands on a public ledger page. Proof: the order sheet is wired; the publish step is described below before it is built.

Civic surges, help tables and noticeboards get funded from rung two and receipted straight back into it. Proof: receipts on the ledger, or it didn't happen.

When the ground game is real, the paperwork follows: federal registration currently takes 1,500 members. Proof: the AEC register, one day, with our name on it.

Candidates, not a catalogue

Tell us what you'd actually wear.

One test for every tile: would you wear or carry it with the politics stripped off? If it only works because of the logo, it's landfill with a cause printed on it. What gets quoted is what people ask for, not what we imagined at a keyboard.

First principles

Skip the store entirely: the colour is the merch.

The colour panel gives you the exact purples and the dyes, paints and threads that put them on anything you already own. An op-shop jumper and a packet of dye, done today, no supplier required.

Requests so far

Nobody has asked for anything yet.

Because nobody has been asked yet. That's the honest number, and it beats a catalogue nobody wanted. Tell us what you'd wear, what colour purple is the right purple, and what you'd never be seen in. An item gets a supplier when people want it, not before.

Regional starter kits

Source it in your own town first.

Shopping lists with honest ranges, not boxes we ship. One rule shapes them: never buy what a crew already carries in duplicate. Pockets hold the cameras; the kits fund what pockets don't.

Templates named in the kits live free in the starter field kit and the repo. Quotes beat estimates, and the ledger beats both.

Who we ask, in order

Sovereign makers first. Print mills last.

The ladder fades as it descends: bright is local and sovereign, grey is the generic mill. Rank five exists so the rule can only ever be broken out loud.

On rank two: we ask and invite, and businesses onboard themselves on their own terms. We list nobody without consent and speak for nobody. Country and community come before our print run, every time.

The process

How a new supplier gets added.

Six gated steps, so a supplier cannot reach the store before it has been sampled and dated. Anyone can run it without asking Luke; anyone can check the work afterwards.

The one unforgivable move

Never touch the date to make the badge go green.

The store ages its own prices: after 90 days a number flags itself stale whether or not anyone remembered. When it flags, re-quote it or mark it reference. Editing the date to silence the badge is the exact move the rest of this site exists to argue against.

Open books

Where the money goes, before you're asked for any.

Every order splits in the open: the garment and print, the payment fee, and the support amount you chose yourself, which can be zero. Here is an example order, near to scale (the fee sliver is widened a touch so its label stays readable):

The gold segment is set by the buyer at checkout, including to zero. The order sheet already records every row; the next step, described before it is built, is a public ledger page fed straight from those rows. Today's honest number is zero sales and zero dollars, and we'd rather publish that than a vibe.
