Redlands mayoral update · Checked 2026-11-01 · Australia/Brisbane

Mayoral vacancy: a by-election is required.

Redland City Council confirms it received Jos Mitchell’s resignation on . The mayoral office is vacant. Julie Talty continues as Acting Mayor during the election period. Read Council’s announcement.

On 29 October, Council agreed to ask ECQ to recommend a full postal ballot to the Minister for Local Government. This is a request subject to electoral requirements and approval processes, not a confirmed voting method or election timetable. Read Council’s postal-ballot request decision.

At the 1 November 2026 check, ECQ’s election-events page did not list a Redland polling date or nomination deadline. Check ECQ’s election-events page. These panels begin only when each official date and time is confirmed.

All times are Brisbane time (AEST, UTC+10). A legal scheduling rule is not an announced polling date. Check ECQ for enrolment, early/postal voting, polling places and any changed notice.

Candidate announcements and nominations

One primary-source announcement verified in this focused review; not a complete field or an official ballot. ECQ had not published a Redland nomination timetable on its election-events page at the 1 November 2026 check.

Rowanne McKenzie

Announced intention to nominate

Announced her decision to nominate for Mayor of Redland City. This is a public intention to run, not an ECQ-accepted nomination.

Announced 2026-11-01 · Checked 2026-11-01 · AEST (Brisbane, UTC+10). Read the primary announcement

Announcing an intention to run is separate from lodging a formal nomination and ECQ accepting it. No formal nomination status is inferred from social media.

How the replacement process works
  1. A vacancy, then an election. A mayoral vacancy in the beginning or middle of a council term is filled by a by-election. In the final part it is filled by appointing a sitting councillor. The final part of this term begins on 16 March 2027, the third anniversary of the 2024 election; the 28 October 2026 vacancy is earlier. The deputy mayor acts during the vacancy. Local Government Act 2009, ss 161, 164–165.
  2. Wait for the official notice. The returning officer fixes the by-election day. The ordinary rule is within two months of the vacancy; this is not a confirmed event date. The notice sets a nomination day 8–18 calendar days after publication and 18–42 days before polling. Local Government Electoral Act 2011, ss 24–25.
  3. Nominations come before voting. Nominations must reach the returning officer before noon on the official nomination day (s 27). Eligibility, required training, nomination, campaign accounts and disclosure obligations are explained in the ECQ candidate guide. Considering standing, announcing an intention and an accepted nomination are different stages.
  4. Check the result. Follow ECQ’s nomination, voting, count and declaration notices. A countdown reaching its target does not establish that polling occurred or somebody was elected. Council says the elected mayor will serve until the next local elections in 2028.
Ordinary 2028 election and earlier records

The separate ordinary council cycle remains 2028-03-25, derived from ECQ’s calendar rule and subject to regulation and the official timetable. Its original check date is 2026-10-16; it is not this by-election’s polling date.

Awaiting confirmation to begin

The ordinary-cycle date is indicative only. No countdown begins until an official election date is confirmed.

People first. Evidence alongside.

Use the same questions for every public representative and candidate: their public history, responsibilities, positions, records, sources and corrections. Being in office does not establish that someone is running again.

Council

Mayor and councillors

Start with council's current public directory, division and responsibilities. Use meeting records to examine a decision.

A vote needs its context.

Motion, amendment or divisionDate, body, exact question, member's recorded position, outcome and original sourceAbsent, recused and not recorded are different. An amendment vote is not automatically a position on the whole proposal.

History and follow-throughWhat was said, what was decided, what was delivered and correctedA mismatch opens a question; it does not by itself prove intent.

These are public-record routes, not a completed local roll-call database or candidate directory. Federal tracker coverage must not be presented as council coverage.

An optional part of a person's public account

Learning and reflection belong here.

Someone in Redlands could choose to document a first Aura Genesis journey: what they hoped to learn, what they chose to share, what they reconsidered and what evidence emerged. This is a hypothetical pathway, with no named participant or implied candidacy.

Kintsugi Protocol, 60 Days Set in Stone and the Truth Engine can connect self-examination to public responsibility. Personal reflection stays distinct from verified public facts, clinical evidence and the responsibilities of office. Private material remains private unless its author chooses otherwise.

Following the confirmed mayoral vacancy.

Council has confirmed the vacancy and a by-election is required. Follow the official ECQ notice and current candidate guidance. Community work can also continue outside office.

01

Understand the role

Separate the mayor's responsibilities from decisions requiring council, officers, another government or a service provider. Identify the power and resources needed for each proposal.

02

Consider, stand aside or nominate

Eligibility, training, accounts, expenditure and disclosure obligations need current official guidance. Some obligations can begin before formal nomination. Deciding not to stand is a valid branch.

03

A clear public account

Show proposals, sources, status, costs, volunteered contributions and intended outcomes. Record announcements separately from accepted nominations; any withdrawal follows the applicable official rules.

04

An outcome and a handover

If elected, connect proposals to decisions, budget, delivery, review and the remaining statutory term. A year of service is an illustrative scenario, not a guaranteed term. If not elected, local projects can still continue.

A public question can lead to a correction, an offer or a formal decision.

Choose a useful action
For a human continuing with an agent

Keep the person's question, chosen route and own meaning intact. Distinguish a source, an interpretation and a proposal. Check dates and geography. Carry the three accounts together: cost, freely given contribution and observed change. A page supplies context; action and sharing still follow the person's existing authorisation.
